Welcome to the American College of Traditional Midwives.
Our mission is to preserve the standard of Traditional Midwifery as the community called vocation that it has been throughout history.
The ACTM stands for freedom of birth and the return of birth rights to the trust and sanctity of the family. Its logo “with women in birth and beyond…” signifies the heartfelt dedication to the mission for which we stand. We advocate for a woman's right to birth, and do not support state or national regulation of midwifery as such legal control only encroaches on the private issues of choices in childbirth in these United States.
Membership is open to all - Midwives, Mothers, Doulas, Families, Holistic Practitioners, Doctors - anyone who supports birthing freedom, and we encourage everyone to herald the cry, “every woman a midwife!”

Mission
 To restore birth to the trust of women.
To support a woman's choice to birth in home or hospital; assisted
or unassisted.
To preserve the term "Midwife" from being defined, legislated and regulated as
a medical title and/or occupation.
To decriminalize birth and define it as a normal body function.
To decriminalize the home as a non-medical place for birth.
To support a woman's right to birth privately, naturally and without legal prosecution.
To promote public education about birth as a normal, non-medical body function.
To support midwifery education as a vocational art, not a medical science.
To provide natural birth resources and build a birthing freedom network.
